| In training, we practice a system called Instructional System Design. There are five steps: (1) Needs Analysis, (2) Training Design, (3) Training Development, (4) Implementation, and (5) Evaluation. Each step require a dedicate effort to make it successful. Needs analysis is about gathering information about a performance issue and determine if training is the right solution. Training design includes project management, contents planing, instructional sequencing, working with SMEs, etc. Training Development is usually about content development, be it in text or e-learning format. Implementation has to do with hands-on training, classroom instruction, and/or mentoring. Evaluation can be done in two ways. Testing and on-the-job observation are designed to evaluate the effectiveness of training, while the other evaluation is done on the ISD itself. |
